Austin, TX – 25 people who are a part of a local conscious leadership program, called Ascension Leadership Academy have been called to raise $111,111 by December 2, 2021, for the Texas Advocacy Project, a non-profit that serves the entire state of Texas by providing free legal remedies to those seeking legal action in domestic violence or sexual assault cases, they also host preventative curriculums to young teens and adults.
“I wish I knew of resources like the kind Texas Advocacy Project provides when I was in the trenches of my domestic abuse experience,” explains community project co-captain, Kayla Hodges, “I’m so incredibly honored to be raising non-restricted funds in hopes they answer the prayers I once prayed to reclaim sovereignty, peace, and safety.”
1 in 4 women will experience some form of abuse in their lifetime. The Texas Advocacy Project is a step by step resource for mothers, sisters, and children to count on to permanently end their domestic abuse cycles and to prevent any future abuse from happening. Last year alone, they helped over 10,000 survivors find safety and justice in the 4,767 cases they closed. Texas Advocacy Project also provides free training and education to thousands of individuals across Texas including judges, prosecutors, crime victim services personnel, legal advocates, medical professionals, universities, and students.
The volunteers come from all over the country to raise awareness and funds in 32 days by utilizing social media, holding an event and auction, and coordinating the painting of a large-scale mural at The YARD, located at 440 E. Saint Elmo Road Austin, TX 78745.
“We were thrilled when ALA came to our organization with their legacy community campaign,” mentions Texas Advocacy Project CEO, Heather Bellino. “These individuals are go-getters and I know they will achieve their goal! We appreciate what they are creating, the support for survivors and those we have yet to reach.”
